RAF Wainfleet Control Tower
Although called RAF Wainfleet as the original control site was situated at Wainfleet St.Mary, it was moved and is now incorporated into the control tower site situated at Friskney. The tower itself houses two quads which are situated in the protrusion directly below the balcony. Targets can also be illuminated by laser from here. (© ESAG 2004)
The control tower from quad 6. The control tower is situated just behind the second sea defence which gives a misleading impression of it's height from here. The site sits amidst fields of arable farmland but a number of cattle can quite often be seen roaming along the forward sea defence. It's an idyllic location in the summer but a little barren in the winter! (© ESAG 2004)
Controller (right) & scorer positions. The scorer receives data from the quad towers through the computer from which he then creates a score sheet giving results both graphically and numerically. These are then sent to the relevant squadrons for scrutiny. (© ESAG 2004)

Looking past Paul out towards the northern end of the range. There are usually three Serco employees working in the tower but they are rotated through the quads as well. (© ESAG 2004 Looking past Andy out towards range centre. (© ESAG 2004)
Ian stands in front of the external landline communications position. This is where range booking is done. (© ESAG 2004) Weather information position (right). The computer on the right is linked to the meteorological information service and is updated constantly. Good weather information is obviously critical with aircraft flying at very low altitudes over the range. (© ESAG 2004)
